Anti-Wrinkle Injections are used cosmetically to treat wrinkles and fine lines. They have been used within the aesthetic industry for over 20 years. A natural, purified protein temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles.
Botox®(botulinum toxin) is a licensed prescriptive medicine of purified protein that if used cosmetically, will reduce the activity of the targeted muscles that cause wrinkles. Botox® has been licensed for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines, when they have an important psychological impact and the patient is <65 years old (nhs.uk) and for use in certain types of muscle spasm and spasticity, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and migraine (mims.co.uk).
It is evidenced that men may require up to 50% more Botox® to achieve the desired effects. This is due to genetic differences and their greater muscle mass and density.
Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine that should only be prescribed and given by an appropriately trained healthcare professional, such as a nurse prescriber (like myself), doctor, dentist or pharmacist prescriber (nhs.uk).
